London Back On Top Of The Rankings
After two years of hiatus, London Marathon returned to the first place in the World Athletics Marathon Performance Rankings.
Competition Performance Rankings of the year 2024 are finalised after the inclusion of the races held in the new year’s eve. London Marathon, the 18-time winner of the past 22 years, finished the year on the very top once again after becoming fifth and second in 2022 and 2023 respectively. Chicago Marathon, where Ruth Chepngetich delivered an incredible world record of 2:09:56, could rank only third behind Tokyo.
Marathons held in Türkiye were on the fall compared to 2023. Thanks to the Turkish all-comers record, Mersin Marathon ranked 49th while the extremely windy İstanbul Marathon had to settle for the 82nd place. Marathon İzmir was back in 111th.
The rankings of the road races in shorter distances than the marathon saw the Valencia Half Marathon in the lead. Istanbul finished outside the top twenty for the first time since 2020.
