    Back To Rumkale

    Following the cancellation of the event in 2020, International Rumkale Water Sports Festival resumes on 26 September this year.

    Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality, the organiser of the Festival, had to cancel last year’s event due to the pandemic after the very successful three editions between 2017 and 2019. Water sports enthusiasts will meet again in Rumkale for the dragon boat, water polo and swimming races.

    Depar Timing is set to provide the timing services at the Open Water Swimming Races within the 4th International Rumkale Water Sports Festival. The 800m race for the 11-12 year-old swimmers will start at 11:30 and will be followed by the age groups of 13-14, 15-16, 17-18, 19-29 and 30+ over a distance of 2021m on Sunday, 26 September. Around 350 swimmers are expected to participate in the races.

    Half Marathon Time In Izmir

    The ninth edition of the 9 September Izmir Half Marathon, the traditional event of Izmir, will be staged on Sunday, 5 September.

    Having been granted a World Athletics Label for the first time, the race is set to start at 07:00 on Sunday morning. The start will be given in waves of 500 athletes each 3 seconds under the Covid-19 measures.

    In addition to the overall classification, the event accommodates nine age groups in men and seven groups on the women’s side. Both male and female winners of the race will pocket 7,500 Turkish Liras while the top master athletes in each age group will receive 750 Liras.

    Timing services in Izmir will be provided by Depar Timing. The multi-national Depar Timing team will also be in charge of distributing the transponders during kit collection on 3-4 September.

    Aquatics Days Get Underway

    Water sports enthusiasts of Istanbul are set to participate in eight different events at four different locations of the city.

    Sports Istanbul, a subsidiary of the Metropolitan Municipality, adds a seasonable activity to the events organised throughout the year. The citizens will have the opportunity to compete in aquathlon, swimming, sailing, canoe, wind surf, modern pentathlon, water polo and dragonboat between 27 August and 30 August. The competitions will be staged in Maltepe Orhangazi Public Park, Bosphorus, Büyükçekmece and Küçükçekmece.

    Depar Timing undertook an important task within the Aquatics Days. The aquathlon challenge, consisting of 1km swimming followed by a 4.2km run in Maltepe Orhangazi Public Park, will be timed by Depar Timing on Saturday, 28 August. The same team of timers will provide its services again in Maltepe coast on Sunday, 29 August, for the 1.5km swimming race, which will feature 18 age group categories in men and women.

    Mountain Biking Returns to Sakarya

    After staging a very successful championship last year, Sakarya is set to host two important events on 30 July and 1 August.

    International Cycling Union (UCI) accommodates the two events to take place at the Sunflower Bike Valley on its 2021 calendar. Sakarya Mountain Bike Cup will kick off with the women’s race at 10:00 on Friday morning, July the 30th. The start time for the male bikers is 14:00. The women participants will pedal 28.1km while the men cover 37.1km in the event that is labelled as HC (Hors Class - beyond categorization), the most difficult type of climb in any race. Sakarya Mountain Bike Cup is classified by UCI as “XCO” (Cross-Country Olympic), the only cross-country discipline in the Olympics programme.

    The Sakarya round of the UCI Mountain Bike Marathon Series will be held on Sunday 1st of August. Men will step out on the race course at 09:00 to ride 110km. Women will follow at 09:30 and race over a distance of 80.9km. The race is of great significance since it offers top 20 men and women a qualification for the UCI Mountain Bike Marathon World Championships.

    Sakarya Sunflower Bike Valley hosted the Mountain Bike Marathon World Championships, one of the foremost global events in mountain bike racing, last year. The multinational Depar Timing team who provided the timing services at the successful event will be on duty again on 30 July and 1 August.

    Towards the 33rd Year At the Bosphorus

    Time to start the countdown for the swimmers! 33rd Samsung Bosphorus Cross-Continental Swimming Race will be held on 22 August.

    The race, annually staged by the Turkish Olympic Committee since 1989, will gather once again 2400 swimmers which half of them are non-Turkish citizens. The applications for the international swimmers had been filled by 56 countries within hours when it opened on 1 February. Russian swimmers who show a great interest to the event every year reached their country quota in only 6 minutes and 20 seconds while the quota for Ukraine was filled in 30 minutes. The 1200 swimmers from Turkey went through a selection process which was staged in several cities.

    The participants will enter the water in Kanlıca on the Asian side of Istanbul at 10:00 on 22 August and attempt to crossing to the European side where the finish area is located in Kuruçeşme Cemil Topuzlu Park. Depar Timing will provide the timing services for the 6.5km event.
