    Darıca Seeking Bronze

    It is a different excitement for Darıca Half Marathon this year. The race on 15 October will be under inspection to be granted IAAF Bronze Label.

    International Darıca Half Marathon, one of the fastest improving road races in Turkey, applied to the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) at its sixth year for a Bronze Label. An IAAF Technical Delegate will be on site on 15 October to supervise the event. Should the race meet the various IAAF criteria from timing services to medical measures, Darıca Half Marathon would be the third event in Turkey holding an IAAF Road Race Label after Istanbul Marathon and Istanbul Half Marathon.

    Registration with the 6th International Darıca Half Marathon is possible via the official website of the event at www.daricayarimaraton.com. Timing services in Darıca will once again be provided by the experienced Depar Timing team.

    Chicago Celebrates 40th Anniversary

    Countryman Galen Rupp and Ethiopian Tirunesh Dibaba took the honours at the 40th edition of the Chicago Marathon. The winning times are 2:09:20 and 2:18:31 respectively.

    First staged in 1977, Chicago Marathon had attracted a field of more than 4,200 runners, making it the largest marathon in the world at the time. It was one of the special editions of the event on 8 October 2017. Galen Rupp, who managed to pull away from his African rivals, became the first US man since Khalid Khannouchi in 2002 to take the victory. The 31-year old marathoner from Portland finished in 2:09:20. Kenyan Abel Kirui, one of the pre-race favourites, followed in 2:09:48. Another Kenyan Bernard Kipyego arrived in a time of 2:10:23 getting the third place.

    On the women’s side, Tirunesh Dibaba, current 5000m world record holder who has a brilliant track career with six global track titles and three Olympic gold medals, dominated the race to win in 2:18:31. Second was the Kenyan Brigid Kosgei finishing in 2:20:22. Jordan Hasay of USA ran a personal best of 2:20:57 in the second marathon of her career to finish in third place.

    Chicago Marathon was the fourth stop of the Abbott World Marathon Majors, which began in London this year. Timing in the race is provided with MyLaps BibTag System. The performances of the runners are measured by the tags attached to their bib numbers.

    Depar Timing Back On Europe’s Roads

    Offering its services not only in Turkey but also abroad, Depar Timing will be on course in Zagreb and Sofia marathons in October.

    Croatian and Bulgarian organisers, who utilised the services of Depar Timing in the previous editions, entrusted Depar Timing once again with timing their events. Expert teams of Depar Timing will facilitate time measurement in both Zagreb and Sofia.

    Zagreb Marathon will celebrate its 26th edition on 8 October. The traditional event, organised by Zagreb Athletic Association, includes a half marathon and a 5km public run as well. Depar Timing will serve all three runs with its accurate bib chip system.

    It will be another three separate running events in Sofia on 15 October. In addition to the marathon, a half marathon and a “quarter marathon” over the distance of 10,55km will be held on the same day. The timing team travelling to Bulgaria from Turkey will be accompanied by experienced timers from Croatia.

    Aquamasters Move To Bodrum

    International Arena Aquamasters Swimming Championship will be held in Bodrum for the first time, from Friday to Sunday, 6-8 October.

    The Championship is staged twice a year since 2015, in May and October, and the previous five editions were hosted in Marmaris, also a district of Muğla. The first race in Bodrum will be the “Profilo Full Moon Meet” starting at 19:00 on 6 October. Entries were limited to 200 swimmers for the 500m event, however, due to the huge number of applications, a total of 270 entries are accepted and the names of the participants are announced on the official website of the event at www.aquamasters.org.

    “International Aquamasters Setur Marinas Relay Meet”, where a team will be consisted of four swimmers, is scheduled to Saturday, 7 October. Each team member will stroke 500 meters. "International Aquamasters Nissan Open Water Swimming Championships” on the 8th of October will be staged over three distances; 1500m, 3000m and 6000m. Each participant is allowed to enter only in one of the races. Late entries are accepted until 2 October.

    Defining their mission as “contributing to the awareness of swimming and offering a mass race to prove that the sport can be practiced by a wide range of age groups”, Aquamasters Management organizes the event under the patronage of the Governorship of Muğla, and in cooperation with the Turkish Swimming Federation and the Youth Services and Sports Directorate of Muğla Province. The performances of the participants are measured by Depar Timing via transponder system.

    Ignite Is Back

    Puma Ignite Run returns to Istanbul on Sunday, 1 October. The 10km race, first held in 2015, will be run between Caddebostan and İdealtepe.

    Organised by Puma, one of the leading sports brands of the world, Ignite Istanbul promises “an unforgettable run for all participants with its unique and updated route plan”. The entry form and further information on the race can be accessed at pumaigniteistanbul.com. Race timing for the anticipated 1600 participants will be provided by Depar Timing.

    Puma Ignite 10km Run will start at 09:00 on Sunday morning from the event area to be set-up at Caddebostan coast. Runners will follow the coastal road to İdealtepe, where they will make a turn to finish back in Caddebostan. The victory ceremony is scheduled to 11:00, and will be followed by various activities with music.
