Organised since 2011, Adana Liberation Half Marathon will again be the first event to host the road runners in the new year. The event, set to celebrate its 15th edition, includes a 10km race as well as a public run. The registration page and detailed information on the event are available on http://adanakurtulusmaratonu.adana.bel.tr. Entries will close on Sunday evening, 29th of December.
The winners of the 15th Adana Liberation Half Marathon will collect 70 thousand Turkish Liras while the 10km winners pocket 18 thousand TL each. There is also a prize purse for the master runners from 35 years of age up to over 80. Timing services in the races will be provided by Depar Timing.
The half marathon was dominated by the African athletes in the past 14 editions. Kenyan men won the race eight times while Turkish athletes earned the honours in three editions, followed by two wins of Moroccans and one time by Ethiopia. On the women’s side, Kenya bagged seven titles, with Turkiye three, Ethiopia two, Morocco and Bahrein one each. Men’s race record is held by Kenya’s Barselius Kipyego with 1:00:46 that is standing from 2016, and the women’s record was set by his compatriot Diana Kipyokei in 2018 with a time of 1:08:42.
