    Top Five in 2018 Rankings

    The year 2018 saw the world and Turkish records broken in both marathon and half marathon. Eliud Kipchoge will be the one to be remembered for years.

    The 34-year-old Kenyan Eliud Kipchoge improved the world record by 1 minute 18 seconds with an incredible performance at the Berlin Marathon in September. One month later, his compatriot Abraham Kiptum broke the world half marathon record in Valencia.

    On the Turkish side, it was Kaan Kigen Özbilen who starred in 2018 by his half marathon record in Istanbul in April, and the marathon record in Amsterdam in October.

    First Stop Adana in the New Year

    Depar Timing will open the year 2019 at the International Adana Half Marathon on 6 January. Entries are accepted until 4 January.

     

    Celebrating its ninth edition, International Adana Half Marathon incorporates the Turkish Half Marathon League this year. Where African athletes have been dominating for the past six editions, men’s race record is held by Kenya’s Barselius Kipyego with 1:00:46, standing from 2016, and the women’s record was set by his compatriot Diana Kipyokei last year with a time of 1:08:42.

     

    Timing services in Adana will be provided by Depar Timing. Registration to the event is possible until Friday, 4 January at adanakurtulusmaratonu.adana.bel.tr.

    13 December, Deadline For Mersin

    Entries for the IAAF Bronze Label International Mersin Marathon will close on 13 December. The event will be held on 16 December.

    Having met the various IAAF criteria from timing services to medical measures last year, International Mersin Marathon was granted the IAAF Bronze Label for the 2018 edition. The event, staged by the Mersin Metropolitan Municipality, incorporates a 15km race and 5km public run as well. The marathon will also see the competition of the wheelchair racers. Mersin Marathon, offering 1000 Turkish Liras for the winners of each age group, is one of the highest paying events for the master athletes in Turkey.

    Entries for the 4th International Mersin Marathon are processed via the official website of the event at www.mersinmaraton.org. Timing services in Mersin will once again be provided by Depar Timing.

    Entries Open for Gazi Half Marathon

    Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality is set to stage the Gazi Half Marathon on 23 December. The deadline for registration is 20 December.

    Following the successful Liberation Run at a distance of 10km nearly a year ago, the Municipality will host the road runners at the Gazi Half Marathon this year. The event offers a total of 35,000 Turkish Liras, which is on stake only for the Turkish citizens. A 5km public run is incorporated in the programme of the day.

    Registration for the Gazi Half Marathon will be possible until Thursday, 23 December unless a pre-determined quota is reached. Entries are processed at www.gaziyarimaratonu.org, the official website of the event.
