    Swimming From Island to Island

    Istanbul is the home for the 8th International Arena Aquamasters Swimming Championships. The two-day event includes an inter-islands race.

    The Prince Islands will host the Championships on the 4th and 5th of August. The relay meet to be held on Saturday will be followed by the race from Burgazada to Heybeliada on Sunday. Teams of four male, or four female, or mixed teams of two male and two female swimmers will compete at the “Setur Marinas 4x500m Relay Meet” scheduled to 16:00 on Saturday, 4 August. At 9:00 on Sunday, the participants of the “Peugeot Open Water Swimming Championship” will be transferred from Heybeliada to Burgazada where the race will start. Swimmers will jump into water for two events in different distances, a 1,5km and a 3km race, starting at 9:30 and 9:45 respectively. The finish is at Heybeliada for both races.

    The Istanbul leg of the International Arena Aquamasters Swimming Championships is organised in collaboration of the Turkish Swimming Federation, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, Istanbul Directorate of Youth Services and Sports, Heybeliada Water Sports Club and Burgazada Water Sports Club. Timing services for the whole event will be provided by Depar Timing.

    Swimmers Head To Çanakkale

    Çanakkale Strait, also known as the Dardanelles, will host the first edition of the Troy Open Water Swimming Race on Sunday, 29 July.

    On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Troy’s entry into the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List, Turkish Sports Foundation is organising the Troy Open Water Swimming Race, which is planned to be held annually. The participants will stroke from the Second Kordon to Kepez Municipality Beach. The race course of an approximately 5km distance passes over the sunken Mesudiye Ironclad, lying 12 meters below the sea surface since the Battle of Gallipoli during World War 1.

    The entries are limited to one thousand swimmers on the first year of the event. The race will include twelve age categories in men and women each, and the timing services will be provided by Depar Timing.

    30th Year At the Bosphorus

    30th Samsung Bosphorus Cross-Continental Swimming Race will be held on Sunday, 22 July. More than two thousand swimmers are set to participate in the event.

    Being annually staged by the Turkish Olympic Committee since 1989, the race once again gathers swimmers from numerous countries. The participants will enter the water in Kanlıca on the Asian side of Istanbul at 10:00 on Sunday morning and attempt to crossing to the European side where the finish area is located in Kuruçeşme Cemil Topuzlu Park. Depar Timing will provide the timing services for the 6.5km event as well as transmitting the results to the LED screens. Depar Timing’s system will produce a certificate for each finisher immediately with the time of the swimmer.

    30th Samsung Bosphorus Cross-Continental Swimming Race will officially kick off on Saturday, 21 July, with various activities at the Kuruçeşme Cemil Topuzlu Park. The Show Swim, scheduled to 14:00, will include Fatma Nazan Göğen, the only swimmer to have participated in all 29 races to date.

    The event welcomes two legendary Olympians this year. Zimbabwean swimmer Kirsty Coventry who has a collection of seven Olympic medals in her career, and the 35-time world record breaker in pole vault, Sergey Bubka of Ukraine, will join the sports fans to watch the race.

    Strokes in Black Sea

    More than 200 swimmers of ages from 14 to 88 competed at the Karadeniz Ereğli International Open Water Swimming Race on 8th of July.

    The event, organized by Karadeniz Ereğli Municipality in cooperation with İstanbul Yıldızlar Sports Club, included a 1500m and 3000m race. The results were provided in a a total of 42 categories by Depar Timing, the official timer of the organization.

    The 1500m race saw two finishers born in 1930, Esat Kıratlıoğlu, a former minister in Turkish Government, and Levent Aksüt, a former registered swimmer who is still active.

    Missions Accomplished in Triathlon

    The results of the Triathlon Junior European Cup and the triathlon races of the Mediterranean Games were provided by the partners and the team members of Depar Timing.

    ETU Triathlon Junior European Cup was hosted by Bucharest, the capital of Romania, as a part of the week-long triathlon festival, and the event was timed by Depar Timing timers. The organisers and the European Triathlon Union expressed their appreciation to the multinational Depar Timing team after the race.

    The timing services at the triathlon races of the Mediterranean Games that is concluded in Tarragona, Spain were provided by Depar Timing’s Hungarian partners. The team, which has been collaborating with Depar Timing in several events abroad as well as in Turkey for many years, also produced the TV graphics for the live coverage in Tarragona.
