    I Run For Peace

    Turkcell Gallipoli Marathon is set to take place on Sunday, 1 October. The peace-themed event includes a half marathon, a 10km and a public run.

    Having started in the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Çanakkale, the marathon will see its third edition in the historical Gallipoli Peninsula. The event, certified as the “European Athletics 5-Star Quality Road Race”, accepts the entries via the website at www.gelibolumaratonu.com. Runners can choose among a variety of distances: marathon, half marathon, 10km and a public run of 5km. Bib numbers and the timing transponders will be delivered at the Marathon Fair to be held in “17 Burda” Shopping Mall from 28th to 30th September.

    Turkcell Gallipoli Marathon is being organised by GTP Tourism Inc. in cooperation with the Sport N Sports Company. The event is supported by the Turkish Athletic Federation, Governorship of Çanakkale, Gallipoli Wars Historical Area Directorate, Çanakkale Municipality, Youth Services and Sports Directorate of Çanakkale Province, Çanakkale 18 Mart University and Eceabat Municipality. As in the previous editions, the timing services will be provided by the experienced team of Depar Timing.

    Triathletes On Their Way To Alanya

    Alanya Municipality International Alanya Triathlon will be held in “Age Group Olympic” and “Age Group Sprint” categories on Saturday, 30 September.

    Alanya is hosting a triathlon challenge for the 27th time. Registration is still possible via the official website of the event at www.triathlonalanya.com. There is an additional relay race where one of the team members swims, another bikes, and the third one runs. Depar Timing will provide the timing services in all categories.

    Late entries and race kit delivery will be made in Alanya Municipality Cultural Centre from 12:00 to 17:00 on Friday, 29 September. The briefing for the team managers and the athletes will take place also at the Cultural Centre between 18:00 and 19:00. Participants will then be welcomed to the traditional Pasta Party at the Filika Restaurant at 19:00-20:00 hours.

    Cyclists To Pedal For The Rainbow Jersey

    UCI Road World Championships is set to start off in Bergen on Saturday, 16 September. At the end of the 9-day event, the winners will have the right to wear the rainbow jersey for the following 12 months.

    UCI Road World Championships is back to Norway first time since 1993. The event also returns to September after being staged a month later than its usual dates in order to avoid the extreme heat in Doha last year. The time trials will kick off competition on the first two days of the championships, while the road races for Elite Women and Elite Men will take place on the last two days, respectively Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th September. The world champions will have the right to wear the rainbow jersey, one of the most prestigious jerseys that a cyclist could be awarded in a lifetime, until the next championships in Innsbruck, Austria in 2018.

    Timing at the UCI Road World Championships is provided via ProChip, a system which is offered to the race organisers in Turkey by Depar Timing. As it is fast, reliable and accurate to one-thousands of a second, MYLaps ProChip Timing System is also used for the cycling events at the Summer Olympics.

    Entries Close on 5 September For Eğirdir

    The deadline to register for Eğirdir Triathlon is Tuesday, 5 September. The race, incorporating the National Finals, will be held on 10 September.

    The event, where the timing services will be provided by Depar Timing, includes all age categories from the cadettes to seniors as well as the paratriathletes. Elites will swim 750m, bike 20km, and run 5km in the Eğirdir Triathlon, also the Turkey Final for the year. Athletes and clubs achieving Turkish titles will be awarded on site by the Turkish Triathlon Federation.

    The online entry system at http://triatlon.org.tr, official website of the Turkish Triathlon Federation, will close at 23:59 on 5 September. Participants are offered a course visit between 15:00 and 16:00 on 9 September, followed by the Pasta Party at 19:00, and the Technical Meeting at 20:00. The races are to start at 08:00 on 10 September.

    Special Guests For İsmail Akçay

    İsmail Akçay Road Race will be staged on 10 September. The event will host two surviving medalists of 1968 Mexico Olympics who finished the marathon ahead of Akçay.

    Organised since 2009 in the name of the legendary Turkish marathoner, İsmail Akçay Road Race will welcome the Japanese Kenji Kimihara and Mike Ryan of New Zealand who crossed the finish line in Mexico second and third respectively, where Akçay became fourth to just miss a medal. Maintaining a long distance friendship ever since, the three will meet up in Balıkesir. Under the demanding conditions in Mexico, 57 of the 83 registered athletes could make it to the finish line, where İsmail Akçay arrived in 2:25:18.8 behind Kimihara and Ryan. The marathon champion of Mexico 1968, Ethiopian Mamo Wolde, passed away at the age of 70 in 2002.

    İsmail Akçay Road Race will be run over a distance of 12km. The entries are open until 12:30 on Saturday, 9 September. Further information and entry links can be reached via the official website of the Turkish Athletic Federation at www.taf.org.tr.
